Concerned citizens say,
regarding the growing number of local fracking waste injection wells: Enough is Enough!
A citizen-held, town
hall-style, informational, open-to-the-public meeting about fracking waste
injection wells will take place on Friday, May 10, 2019 in Brookfield, Ohio
starting at 7 PM
Here we go again?
Yet another local community – Coitsville
- joins Brookfield and Hubbard Township, Ohio
- in facing the possible operation of a toxic fracking waste injection well
planned to be located way too near family homes, businesses, waterways, and
government buildings in a populated area.
Unfortunately, Ohio seems to have become a preferred
location for toxic waste “disposal.”
What community could be next in line for
being forced to have a waste injection well – against many residents’ and
elected officials’ opposition?
A citizen town hall-style meeting to be
held on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 7 PM to 9:30 PM at the Brookfield Ohio Fire Hall (social
hall), at 774 State Route 7 NE, Brookfield, Ohio 44403 will address fracking
waste injection wells, in general, and new toxic waste injection wells proposed
for Brookfield, Hubbard
Township, and Coitsville, Ohio. Towns with operating injection wells include
North Lima, Vienna,
Fowler, Torch, and more.
At the beginning of the Brookfield meeting, distinguished speakers
will provide information about injection wells, hazardous waste, and other
relevant issues. Then the floor will be opened to the public and media for
comments, questions, and answers.
Confirmed speakers are:
Battalion Chief of the Youngstown Fire Department, Silverio
Caggiano, who has served for 37 years with the fire department and who serves
on numerous hazardous materials technical advisory committees for the
state. Chief Caggiano also has 27 years
as a hazardous materials/ WMD Specialist.
Hubbard Township Trustee Rick Hernandez,
Jr.
Teresa
Mills, Executive Director of the Buckeye Environmental Network (BEN) and
Community Organizer for the Center for Health, Environment and Justice (CHEJ).
The meeting is free and open to the
public. All media are urged to please attend.
Many concerned citizens believe that
injection wells pose unacceptable risks to public health, safety, welfare, and
the environment. Injection wells have
been linked to man-made earthquakes, spills, or pollution that negatively
impact water, air, and land.
Concerned citizens, including those in
Mahoning and Trumbull
Counties, say: Enough is enough! They say Ohio and surrounding areas cannot be used as
toxic fracking waste dumps. Residents
say this is too much, and this is unacceptable; the Ohio Department of Natural
Resources (ODNR) must stop this in order to protect public health, safety, and
welfare of our neighborhoods.
This is especially true since there have
already been many man-made earthquakes linked to injection wells or fracking in
our region. No one knows where all of
the faults might lie that could lead to more induced seismicity. It is also not
known how large in magnitude potential induced quakes might be. Oklahoma
has experienced man-made earthquakes that scientists have linked to injection
wells, including a magnitude 5.7 in the year 2011 and a magnitude 5.8 in 2016.[i]
Furthermore, the 2015 spill related to
injection wells in Vienna, Ohio
and the magnitude 4.0 Youngstown
earthquake of 2011 linked to the Northstar One injection well are still fresh
in many residents’ minds. This region cannot
afford another potential injection well – related fiasco that threatens water,
air, and land.
The groups, FANC and BEN, believe based
upon science and experience, that injection is inherently unsafe and that no
amount of regulation can make it safe, especially in a highly populated,
earthquake-prone area where Hubbard Township and Brookfield
are located and where there are abandoned coal mines.

wells, man-made earthquakes, and more, please see:
